OpenAI said Thursday that it is launching a test version of a search product as the AI software maker looks to take the fight to Alphabet’s Google.

The ‘SearchGPT’ product will include new search features, combining AI models with information from the web to provide users “with clear and relevant sources,” the company said in a blog post-Thursday.

The AI search product will be launched to a small group of users and publishers to get feedback. The company has a waitlist for users to request access to SearchGPT, which for now will operate separately from other OpenAI services like ChatGPT.

“While this prototype is temporary, we plan to integrate the best of these features directly into ChatGPT in the future,” it added.

Alphabet Inc Class A (NASDAQ: GOOGL), the leader in search, was down more than 2% following the news.
