OpenAI recently announced that ChatGPT now has over 200 million weekly active users, doubling the 100 million users reported in November 2022. The surge in usage highlights the platform’s growing influence, especially as 92 percent of Fortune 500 companies are now utilizing OpenAI’s products. This rise in popularity coincides with the introduction of the GPT-4o Mini model, which has led to a doubling of API usage.
Since its launch in late 2022, ChatGPT has spurred major tech companies like Google, Microsoft, and Meta to develop their own AI chat interfaces. Meta’s AI assistant has already attracted 185 million weekly active users, despite limited availability in regions like the UK and EU.
In a related development, the US AI Safety Institute announced that OpenAI and Anthropic will allow government evaluations of their AI models before public release. Additionally, there are reports that Apple and Nvidia might be part of OpenAI’s upcoming investment round.
