Apple crossed the $5 trillion mark at Wednesday’s close, reaching the milestone on a day when much of the technology sector was falling.
Shares finished at $342.96 on October 14, putting Apple’s market capitalisation at approximately $5.01 trillion. The company became the second after Nvidia to close above that threshold, with its shares up 26.5% this year, according to StockAnalysis.com.
A milestone against the market trend
Apple gained approximately 0.5%, while the Nasdaq dropped 1.9% as inflation concerns weighed on technology stocks.
The company had previously crossed $5 trillion during trading but had never finished a session above it, The Wall Street Journal reported.
That distinction makes Wednesday its first closing milestone, rather than its first moment above the valuation.
The next test is growth
Attention now turns to whether Apple’s products and services can support the expectations reflected in its share price.
The upcoming foldable iPhone Duo adds another test of consumer demand, alongside questions about how Apple’s AI features will influence device upgrades.

Apple’s $5 trillion valuation marks a strong year for shareholders. Sustaining it will depend on future earnings and cash flow, rather than the milestone itself.
