OpenAI, backed by Microsoft, has acquired search and database analytics startup Rockset to enhance its enterprise products’ infrastructure, the ChatGPT maker announced on Friday. While the deal size wasn’t disclosed, sources familiar with the matter valued Rockset at several hundred million dollars, making it one of OpenAI’s largest acquisitions.
Rockset, founded by former Meta engineers, specializes in real-time search and analytics databases. The acquisition will see Rockset’s team join OpenAI, utilizing their expertise in real-time data processing to improve the retrieval infrastructure for ChatGPT’s enterprise offerings. This integration aims to provide faster and more accurate responses from AI models, aiding OpenAI’s push to offer advanced tools for large enterprises.
OpenAI continues to expand its services beyond consumer-facing products like ChatGPT, pitching ChatGPT Enterprise and developing new AI models to compete with Alphabet’s Google and other AI firms.
