Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang plans to announce $2 billion in new European investments next week, expanding the chipmaker’s push to strengthen the region’s AI industry.
“Europe needs to get in the race,” Huang said, according to Semafor. The report did not identify the recipients, individual projects or timetable for deploying the money.
The planned announcement comes as European governments and businesses seek a larger role in AI development. Investment in computing infrastructure can help local companies build and deploy AI services, although access to chips alone does not guarantee commercially successful products.
For Nvidia, backing Europe’s AI industry could expand the customer base for its processors, networking equipment and software. It also reflects the company’s growing role as both a technology supplier and a financial supporter of the market it serves.

The next announcement will matter for more than its headline value: the investment terms and projects selected will show how Nvidia intends to turn Europe’s AI ambitions into business.
