It’s hard to imagine a more unusual pairing than Kim Kardashian and Elon Musk. While the reality TV icon and tech entrepreneur aren’t teaming up romantically or professionally, Kardashian’s peculiar fascination with Musk’s creations has taken centre stage. Her latest display flaunts a Tesla Optimus robot.
Although Kim isn’t typically associated with tech expertise, she has a notable affection for Tesla products. Just weeks ago, the entrepreneur showcased her brand-new Cybertruck on social media.
Despite encountering issues with the truck—much like many other owners—it didn’t deter Kardashian from acquiring one of Musk’s newest innovations. In an Instagram Story, she introduced the robot as her “personal assistant.”
Kim and Optimus: A Unique Duo
In a series of Instagram Stories, Kim introduced Optimus to her massive following, demonstrating some of its pre-programmed capabilities. She waved at the robot, which waved back in return.
Kardashian formed half of a heart with her hand, and Optimus completed the gesture perfectly. “Oh, you can do that!” she exclaimed, seemingly unfazed by its eerie resemblance to robots from I, Robot.
But the fun didn’t end there. After showing off a few moves, Optimus mimicked jogging and added some playful hand waves. Kim’s reaction? “Oh, you’re Hawaiian!”—a quip that has since sparked countless memes and online jokes.
A Gift or an Investment?
It’s unclear whether Kardashian shelled out the $20,000-$30,000 price tag for Optimus or if it was a generous gift from Musk himself. Either way, the spectacle has proven to be great publicity for both parties.
Initially, Musk promoted Optimus as a versatile helper, capable of tasks like babysitting, gardening, and even teaching. For now, though, Kardashian’s robot seems more like a novelty. Who knows? It might be walking her dogs next week.
