President Joe Biden has publicly endorsed a ban on congressional stock trading, stating, “Nobody in the Congress should be able to make money in the stock market while they’re in Congress.”
In an interview conducted by political adviser Faiz Shakir for A More Perfect Union, Biden criticized lawmakers who use their positions for financial gain, referencing examples such as stock trading during the early stages of the coronavirus pandemic.
Biden reflected on his time as a senator, saying he relied solely on his salary and avoided stock market investments, adding, “I think we should be changing the law.”
The endorsement comes amid bipartisan efforts to pass a proposal banning stock trading by members of Congress and their families. While the proposal has numerous sponsors, it has yet to receive a vote. Biden’s statement may signal a push for accountability, though it comes near the end of his term
