Boeing secures two major wins in 24 hours — but ethics questions swirl as Trump embraces a luxury jet gifted by Qatar.

During President Donald Trump’s visit to Doha on Wednesday, Qatar Airways signed a massive deal to purchase 160 aircraft from Boeing (NYSE: $BA). The signing took place with Trump and Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani in attendance, marking another major announcement on Trump’s four-day Middle East tour.

The deal is expected to include a mix of passenger and cargo jets, giving Boeing a crucial lift as the company works to rebound from multiple international delivery issues and production delays.

Trump to Accept $400M Jet Gift — Despite Bipartisan Blowback

The order announcement was quickly overshadowed by another headline: Qatar is gifting a $400 million Boeing 747-8 luxury jet to Trump — reportedly for his presidential library after leaving office.

Trump confirmed he will accept the gift, defending the move on Truth Social:

“Why should our military, and therefore our taxpayers, be forced to pay hundreds of millions of Dollars when they can get it for FREE? Only a FOOL would not accept this gift.”

He compared the plane to historic diplomatic gifts such as the Statue of Liberty and the Resolute Desk from Queen Victoria.

The White House is currently reviewing the legality of the gift, and the DNC responded with a political stunt: flying a “Qatar-a-Lago” banner over Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate.

Critics warn the jet could create a quid-pro-quo dynamic and raise security risks, given Qatar’s sensitive geopolitical positioning.

China Lifts Boeing Ban After US Trade Truce

In a timely tailwind for Boeing, China lifted its ban on Boeing aircraft deliveries, just one day prior — a move tied to the recently signed U.S.–China trade agreement.

China’s decision removes a key bottleneck that had stalled over $15B in backlogged orders and positions Boeing to accelerate deliveries and revenue recovery in the world’s second-largest aviation market.

Ethics and Influence in the Air

This week’s flurry of deals also included revelations about Trump’s growing private business presence in the Gulf:

  • A $2B investment from UAE’s MGX Fund into Binance, using stablecoins from Trump’s crypto project
  • Trump’s close personal ties to Gulf states drawing increased scrutiny from both ethics experts and lawmakers
  • U.S. Senator Chris Murphy warned that “Trump is monetising the presidency globally, beyond anything we’ve ever seen”

Trump maintains the 747 will be donated to the Department of Defense, and later to his presidential library. However, questions remain over donor influence, precedent, and whether the gift is truly being separated from political gain.

What It Means for Markets

  • $BA (Boeing) surged on news of both the Qatar order and China delivery restart
  • Aerospace suppliers and U.S. manufacturing sectors could benefit from knock-on demand
  • Ongoing ethics probes may weigh on political capital and policy clarity in defense contracting

With 160 jets sold, one presidential jet gifted, and China re-opening its skies to Boeing, this week has delivered a rare triple win for the U.S. aerospace industry — even as the political turbulence surrounding the Trump administration continues to deepen.
