The Trump 47 Committee has refunded the billionaire Winklevoss twins, founders of cryptocurrency company Gemini after their Bitcoin donations to Donald Trump’s presidential campaign exceeded the maximum allowed under federal law. Each twin had announced $2 million donations in Bitcoin on social media, surpassing the legal limit of $844,600 per person.

It remains unclear if the refunded amount was in Bitcoin or converted to cash. The Trump committee, which handles contributions, returned the excess funds as required by federal law. The donated money supports Trump’s campaign, his legal fund, the Republican National Committee, and 42 GOP state party committees.

This refund comes amid Trump’s growing relationship with the crypto industry, highlighting the sector’s significance in the 2024 election. The Winklevoss brothers have also contributed heavily to other political committees and attended high-profile fundraisers.
