Russia has announced a six-year ban on cryptocurrency mining in 10 regions, effective January 1, 2025, through March 15, 2031.

The affected areas include Dagestan, Ingushetia, Kabardino-Balkaria, Karachay-Cherkessia, North Ossetia, Chechnya, Donetsk, Lugansk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson. This prohibition applies to both mining pools and individual miners. Additionally, during peak energy consumption periods, seasonal restrictions will be implemented in three Siberian regions—Irkutsk, Buryatia, and Zabaikalsky.

In 2025, these restrictions will be in place from January 1 to March 15, and from November 15 to March 15 in subsequent years. These measures align with cryptocurrency mining laws signed by President Vladimir Putin in August and October 2024, aimed at managing energy consumption.

Initially, a broader ban was proposed for 13 regions, including Irkutsk, a key mining hub, but the final version has been revised to the current list.
