At its annual I/O developer conference, Google unveiled sweeping AI-powered upgrades across Search, Android, Gemini, Gmail, Chrome, and even eyewear—marking its boldest push yet toward making AI the foundation of its product ecosystem.
Held in California, the event spotlighted the next evolution of Gemini, Google’s flagship AI platform, while also showcasing major advancements in multimodal agents, real-time reasoning, smart glasses, and creative tools for coding, film, and image generation.
Here’s a detailed breakdown of everything announced.
Gemini 2.5 Gets Agentic
At the center of I/O 2025 was Gemini 2.5, Google’s latest AI model, now with powerful “agent mode” capabilities. Gemini isn’t just assisting users—it’s now completing complex tasks independently.
With Agent Mode, Gemini can:
- Book appointments
- Plan multi-step workflows
- Access external tools and complete delegated tasks across Google services
This agentic behavior is being rolled out across Android, iOS, Chrome, and Google Workspace, effectively replacing the aging Google Assistant.
“With Agent Mode, Gemini isn’t just answering—it’s acting,” said Sundar Pichai.

Veo 3: Google’s AI Filmmaker Learns Sound and Physics
Google also introduced Veo 3, a next-gen AI video model capable of generating high-resolution video with audio, enhanced lip syncing, and a deeper understanding of real-world physics.
- Supports text-to-video and image-to-video prompts
- Enables dynamic scene transitions
- Allows creators to edit dialogue, tone, and pacing
Veo 3 powers Google’s new creative suite Flow, a video editing tool that combines Veo, Gemini, and Imagen 4 to build entire video scenes from typed prompts or uploaded images.
Imagen 4: AI Art Gets Hyper-Real
Imagen 4 is Google’s most advanced image generation model yet, boasting:
- Improved texture detail, realistic lighting, and consistent object placement
- Advanced spelling and typography (fixing a major AI art flaw)
- Generation in 2K resolution and multiple aspect ratios
- Superior performance in both photorealistic and abstract styles
Imagen 4 is available via Google Labs and built into the Flow platform.
Deep Think Mode & Gemini Pro Upgrades
Google also introduced Deep Think, a new high-computation reasoning layer inside Gemini Pro 2.5, designed for complex tasks in:
- Advanced mathematics
- Logic puzzles
- Code problem-solving
This is paired with native audio generation and computer interaction capabilities, pushing Gemini Pro closer to real-time, hands-free personal assistance.

Gemini is now fully integrated into:
- Google Chrome
- Gmail (for smart, context-aware replies)
- Google Meet (offering real-time translation with voice preservation)

AI Subscription Tiers Overhauled
Google revamped its AI pricing structure:
- Google AI Pro (formerly AI Premium): $20/month
- Google AI Ultra: $250/month
• Offers full access to all Gemini 2.5 capabilities
• Positioned as a competitor to OpenAI’s ChatGPT Pro ($200/month)
Search and Shopping: AI Mode Goes Global
Google’s AI Mode in Search—first launched in March—is now going global. It adds:
- Conversational results for complex queries
- Shopping assistant features with virtual try-on
- Augmented reality previews for furniture and decor
- A dedicated tab in the Google Search UI
Search now behaves like a chatbot interface, drawing context from previous searches and uploaded photos.
Android XR and Smart Glasses

In a surprise live demo, Google unveiled working prototypes of its Android XR glasses. These glasses:
- Display maps, messages, and translations in real time
- Feature AR overlays directly in the user’s field of vision
- Are indistinguishable from traditional glasses in form
Google confirmed partnerships with Gentle Monster and Warby Parker to bring its eyewear to consumers. Additionally, Samsung’s Project Moohan headset—developed with Google—will debut later this year.

AI Coding with Jules & Stitch
Two powerful tools for developers were introduced:
- Jules: An agentic coding assistant that integrates with repositories, writes tests, fixes bugs, and builds features
- Stitch: A UI prototyping tool that converts sketches and rough designs into functional code quickly
Both tools are aimed at significantly speeding up product development cycles for engineers and designers.
AI for Crisis Response: Fire Sat and Wing
To cap off the keynote, Google pivoted to climate tech:
- Fire Sat: A satellite constellation that can detect wildfires as small as 270 feet using AI
- Wing: A drone delivery system already used to transport medicine during Hurricane Helen, now being scaled globally
