Disney is facing a $10 billion copyright infringement lawsuit from animator Buck Woodall, who claims the ‘Moana’ franchise was based on his decades-old screenplay, which was passed to Disney without his consent.

Woodall alleges that former Mandeville Films executive Jenny Marchick shared his confidential materials, including a completed screenplay, character designs, and an animated trailer, which were later used for ‘Moana’ and its 2024 sequel.

The suit details significant similarities between Woodall’s project, originally titled “Bucky,” and both ‘Moana’ films, seeking damages of 2.5% of Moana’s gross revenue and an injunction to prevent further use of his copyrighted material.
