Apple is set to give iPhone and iPad users in the European Union more control over their devices by allowing them to choose default apps for phone calls, messaging, keyboards, and more. This new feature will be available later this year in a “Default Apps” section within Settings, offering users more flexibility.
Expanded Default App Options
Starting in the spring of next year, Apple will further expand these options, allowing users to set default navigation, translation, and call spam filter apps. Additionally, EU users will be able to delete some pre-installed apps like the App Store, Messages, and Safari, with only Settings and Phone remaining undeletable.
Enhanced Browser Choice Experience
Apple is also refining its browser choice screen in the EU. Users with Safari as their default browser will need to scroll through all available options before selecting one. Developers will gain access to more data on how their browsers perform on this choice screen.
