The simmering rivalry between Donald Trump and Elon Musk reignited Tuesday as the Tesla and SpaceX CEO blasted Trump’s $5 trillion spending bill — and the president fired back with fresh threats to cut off federal subsidies to Musk’s companies.
In a late-night barrage on X (formerly Twitter), Musk vowed to “destroy the careers” of any GOP lawmakers who vote in favor of the president’s massive fiscal proposal, labeling the bill “insane” and accusing both major parties of creating a “uniparty.”

“Every member of Congress who campaigned on reducing government spending and votes for this bill will lose their primary — if it’s the last thing I do on this Earth,” Musk wrote.
The billionaire went further, threatening to form a new political party — “The America Party” — if the bill becomes law, and mocked Republicans and Democrats alike as the “Porky Pig Party.”
Musk also shared a meme-style image of lawmakers as Pinocchios, accusing them of betraying their promises and “voting to increase America’s debt by $5 trillion.”

Trump Strikes Back
President Trump didn’t stay silent. According to a White House insider, Trump is “furious” over Musk’s attacks and is now considering scrapping federal subsidies for Tesla, SpaceX, and Musk’s AI ventures.
“If Elon wants to campaign against our own party and call us names, then maybe he shouldn’t be cashing checks from the American taxpayer,” Trump said in off-the-cuff remarks, according to a pool report.
In a separate Truth Social post, Trump accused Musk of “burning bridges with the very people who built them for him.”

What’s at Stake
- Musk’s companies have benefited from billions in government contracts and green energy subsidies.
- The spending bill Musk opposes would increase the debt ceiling by $5 trillion — a move seen as necessary by many economists to avoid a shutdown, but condemned by fiscal conservatives.
- This latest escalation marks the deepest personal rupture yet between Trump and Musk, who once shared the same economic stage.
As Trump doubles down on reshaping GOP loyalty and Musk pushes for an entirely new party, their public feud threatens to fracture the conservative base just as the 2026 midterms loom. Whether this political brawl is personal or strategic, one thing is clear: Washington’s most unpredictable alliance has fully collapsed.
