YouTube is intensifying its efforts to combat misleading content by removing videos with deceptive titles or thumbnails that fail to deliver on their promises. This initiative will commence in India and gradually expand to other countries in the coming months.
The platform is particularly targeting “egregious” clickbait, especially in videos related to breaking news or current events. Examples include titles like “the president resigned!” without addressing such a topic, or thumbnails suggesting top political news on videos lacking such content.
Initially, during the rollout in India, YouTube will remove content that violates these guidelines without immediately issuing strikes to creators. The focus will be on educating creators, with enforcement efforts prioritising new uploads moving forward.
This move underscores YouTube’s commitment to enhancing content quality and combating misinformation on its platform.
