After days of escalating tension, US President Donald Trump struck a more conciliatory tone Monday toward Elon Musk, signalling openness to reconciliation and downplaying rumours of drug use at the White House.

“I haven’t really thought about it, actually,” Trump told reporters when asked if he planned to call Musk.
“I would imagine he wants to speak to me. If I were him, I’d want to speak to me… Maybe he’s already called — you’d have to ask him whether or not he’s already called. But I’d have no problem with it.”

Pressed on the now-viral allegations that Musk used drugs while serving as Trump’s DOGE adviser — including claims from The New York Times that Musk used ketamine, Adderall, ecstasy, and mushrooms at official events — Trump replied:

“I really don’t know. I don’t think so; I hope not.”
“We had a good relationship. I just wish him well — very well, actually.”

The president also dismissed rumors of a physical altercation between Musk and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, stating:

“They did have an argument, but I didn’t see a lot of physicality there.”

Despite Musk’s recent public criticism of Trump’s tax bill as a “disgusting abomination” and Trump’s threat to cancel SpaceX contracts, the president clarified:

“We’re not going to get rid of Starlink — it’s good service,” and added that Tesla vehicles at the White House would remain in place.
“I hope he does well with Tesla.”

Errol Musk Says Feud Rooted in Stress, Will End “Very Soon”

Speaking from a conservative business forum in Moscow, Errol Musk, father of the Tesla and SpaceX CEO, said the feud between Trump and his son was triggered by “months of intense stress” and should come to an end.

“They’ve had five months of intense stress,” Errol told Reuters.
“With all the opposition cleared and two people left in the arena, all they have ever done is get rid of everything and now they are trying to get rid of each other — well that has to stop.”

Asked how the fight would conclude, he said:

“Oh, it will end on a good note — very soon.”

Errol said Elon was standing by his principles, but acknowledged the limits of idealism in politics:

“Elon is sticking to his principles, but you cannot always stick to your principles in the real world. Sometimes you have to give and take.”

He also made headlines for praising Russian President Vladimir Putin as “a very stable and pleasant man” and claimed Western media was spreading “complete nonsense” about Russia.

Background: The Fallout

The Trump–Musk feud erupted publicly last week after Musk slammed the president’s sweeping tax and spending package. In retaliation, Trump ended their political alliance, threatened to cancel federal contracts, and referred to Musk as “crazy” and “disloyal.”

Reports even emerged that Trump considered selling off the red Tesla gifted to the White House in March — though he later said he’d simply move the vehicle “to another location.”

Where Things Stand

Despite the highly public falling out, both sides are signaling a possible off-ramp:

  • Trump is not closing the door on a phone call
  • Musk has retweeted pro-Trump posts since Saturday
  • VP JD Vance urged Musk to “come back into the fold”

For now, no direct call has happened, but the tone has shifted from feud to cautious reset.
