President Donald Trump has declared that Nvidia’s top-tier Blackwell AI chips will be reserved exclusively for US companies, tightening the country’s control over advanced technology exports.
“I MEET WITH $NVDA JENSEN HUANG ALL THE TIME… WE DON’T GIVE NVIDIA’S BLACKWELL CHIP TO OTHER PEOPLE”
In a “60 Minutes” interview, Trump said, “The most advanced, we will not let anybody have them other than the United States.” The move signals a sharp policy shift, from encouraging AI exports to allies earlier this year, to now locking down cutting-edge chips from China and potentially others.
The restriction follows Nvidia’s plan to ship 260,000 Blackwell chips to South Korea, including Samsung. While Trump didn’t rule out selling weaker versions to China, he stressed that no country will access the most advanced chips.
Nvidia’s CEO Jensen Huang recently confirmed the company’s China business is “100% out”, after sweeping US export bans wiped out what was once a major market.

Analysts say the decision could heighten geopolitical tensions and reshape global AI competition, reinforcing US dominance but risking further retaliation from Beijing.
