Meta is reportedly in talks with Google to spend billions on its Tensor Processing Units (TPUs), marking a major move away from Nvidia’s GPUs. According to The Information, Meta may start renting TPUs from Google Cloud next year, with large-scale chip purchases expected in 2027.

The news sent Alphabet shares up over 4% and Nvidia down about 4%, while Broadcom, which helps Google produce TPUs, gained nearly 2%.

In response, Nvidia said it is “delighted by Google’s success” and continues to supply chips to the company, adding that its platform remains “a generation ahead of the industry.”

The talks come as tech giants race to diversify their AI supply chains and reduce reliance on Nvidia’s expensive and often limited GPUs. If finalized, the deal could make Google a key player in the AI hardware market — and mark a new stage in the competition for the future of computing.
